It is very easy to figure out what you are competing for. We all want more attention, a new job, a promotion or a sale. But what is your edge? In this incredibly competitive world, whatever you are competing on is the focus. If you are competing on price, you end up spending all your time counting pennies. If you are competing on noise, you are going to be yelling or posting or publishing all the time. If you are competing on trust, you need to ensure you keep the promises you are making. If you are competing on smarts, you need to get smarter all the time! If you are competing based on having true fans, you need to keep earning their trust and attention so they continue caring about your work. If you are competing based on credentials you need to get better accredited and certified all the time. If you are competing on perfection, you need to spend your days picking nits! If you are competing on hustling, you need to spend all your time cutting corners and looking for new tricks. If you are competing on getting picked, you need to audition all the time! If you are competing on being innovative, you need to be more curious and inquisitive about things. And if you are competing on your responsiveness, you need to spend your days glued to your work so you are faster than the competition. In the competitive market we live in, you should be prepared to invest everything you have on the thing you are competing on. You may as well choose something you can live with, a practice you can thrive in!
